Busy Life of the Powells

This will (hopefully) be a short narrative, and LOTS of pictures :)

As always, we have been a busy bunch. Work and home life alone can bog you down, but mix in time with family, friends, and then holidays!?! The time tends to escape us. Although we try to enjoy every minute of it with the girls.

Mother's day weekend was a blast! We went to San Diego for two days; one day to participate in the "5K for Babies" walk, and the next day to spend at Sea World for Emma and Kaelyn's first trip. The weather was perfect, Emma thoroughly enjoyed the walk (at one point running like a marathoner), Kaelyn soaked up events with her usual social, smiley, and "chill" self and Sea World, well I think the adults had more fun there than the kids ;) Grammie and Grand-faaja joined us for Sea world, and Matt, Emma, Kaelyn ("Baby KK") and I accompanied Auntie Amber and Uncle Jayson along with cousins Kohl, Cookie, and Jaya at the walk. A weekend with family can't be beat!

Emma always loves a ride on daddy's shoulders... especially PANDA DADDY!

Her after the Walk Pose...Accomplished!

So excited for pool time... floaties were a hit

Kaelyn's first pool experience...she's a water baby!

After the Walk...Kaelyn was excited to be out of the stroller :)

Sea World

Emma at the Sesame Street Theme Park area of Sea World... she wasn't sure about this tunnel

Emma also had her first "Official" Dentist visit. She went once to meet the doctor and let them count her teeth. Pretty non invasive... well this time she got a full cleaning AND x-rays! And she loved it. The only time she had an issue was when they put the jacket on for the x-rays. I think maybe because it is so heavy? Not exactly sure, but the dentist was really empathetic and let her slide on the last couple images of x-rays.

This past weekend, we celebrated father's day. The girls made daddy some key chain accessories (at daycare) and also made him some pictures with personalized hand prints (with mommy) to put on his desk at work. We didn't do much other than a lot of needed shopping, and some relaxation. Daddy got some individual quality time with both of the girls and a break from cooking ;)

June and July continue to be busy months with family pictures, a baby shower, birthdays, etc... Even though we seem to always be on-the-go, my camera is always ready (courtesy of my cell phone) and I try to snap as many pictures as I can. Kaelyn's first birthday is just around the corner and it is a big realization how fast time flies :(

Kaelyn loves music. I know most, if not all, babies do. But Kaelyn literally stops at the sound of music, and most recently has started dancing! She claps constantly, and if you sing "if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands", she stops whatever she is doing and claps her hands for the whole duration of the song. She has recently started "growling". If you say "RAWR", she'll "growl" back. She also gives kisses... it's sooooo sweet! And has started to wave. She is cruising everywhere, so hopefully soon she will be walking. She'll stand unassisted for 1-2 seconds at a time. She now has EIGHT teeth! Poor girl had a couple of months of gruesome teething. She is a picky eater, but definitely loves fruit. And she is by far a mommy's girl. I never experienced this with Emma, but Kaelyn is fine without me, until she hears my voice, or sees me, she has to be right near me or in my arms.

Emma, she is just a crack up. She is soaking in everything like a sponge so we have to be very careful with what we say, and how we react to certain situations. Just the other day, she was walking barefoot and something was stuck to the bottom of her foot. When she took the first step, felt the "something" she, very animatedly, said "ugh! Come on!" as she proceeded to remove it from her foot. If you ask her if she is hungry, she gestures her hand as if to wave you back and says "no, I'm fine" or "Emma's fine" (she speaks a lot in third person). She recently has learned to count to 10 and is still eagerly trying to learn her colors. She definitely knows green and purple! Sometimes blue, but it is still a work in progress. And as always, she continues to be as independent as ever. Last night, her and I were playing in the playroom, while daddy and "Baby KK" (this is a daddy nick name so when with daddy, that's what we call her) were down stairs. It was approaching Kaelyn's bottle time so naturally she started to fuss. I told Emma that I needed to go down and check on Sissy. Emma said "no, Emma do it". I said "ok". She said "Mama, stay here" and she proceeded to walk out of the playroom towards the stairs.

However, these cute moments don't come without the terrible twos syndrome.Sometimes I feel like I have two different toddlers! Haha Matt and I know this is just a phase, and we will relish in her peaceful, happy moments and hope the tantrum filled moments are short lived. It is definitely a constant learning experience!

Here are some pics over the past couple months...
Uncle Chaddo teaching Kaelyn the guitar... before this, she cried hysterically anytime Uncle Chaddo got near her

Happy Giraffe :) I love dressing her in bright colors

Such a good big sister... morning time is always fun with these two!

Emma still loves her bubbles

And the park... looking for the pirates booty

And of course, the slide

She had to play solo... of course

A rare moment when Emma actually posed for the camera...

Usually I can only get a pic of her if we do something silly...

Hollywood attitude... she literally became a diva with these glasses
